I have grown a lot since my first pinch pot to now in sculpture 1. In the beginning of the quarter I have never created a sculpture of something. The first pinch pot I did was not very good, I didn't have a good idea of how to create one. It takes time to get the feel for clay. Using different tools throughout the semester has helped tremendously. Now I know how to use different tools to either make it smoother, more detail or texture.
Question 2:
The project I felt that was the least successful was the rattle pot. I attempted to make a rattle pinch pot out of a cactus. I used way too much clay and it seemed to be really uneven towards the end. I used so much clay it didn't even rattle when it was fully finished. The glaze I used made the cactus look more realistic and it added more texture to the pot. For the next pinch pot rattle I would use less clay and I would make the piece smaller.
Question 3:
The most successful project was the animal sculpture besides it breaking in the Kiln. I felt that I made the cow look very realistic using different texture and tools. I made the eyes pop out and look like they were real eyes. Yes, it was unfortunate it broke in the Kiln, but I do believe the finished project would have looked so good. I really took the time to look at the reference picture to create the frame/structure of the cow.
Question 4:
Gathering ideas and materials was definitely the most challenging part of this class. There were two projects I really struggled with which was the wearable jewelry and the non-objective sculpture. I couldn't find many ideas to make for the non-objective sculpture piece and it was extremely hard to be creative. The wearable jewelry was challenging because I didn't have much material unless I went to the store and bought beads ext.
